Things to Consider When Purchasing Electrical Materials
Powerlineer — Professional electrical installation and safe material selection consultancy in Sakarya Serdivan
The quality of the materials used in electrical installations is critical for the safety and durability of the system. Although cheap but non-standard products may provide a cost advantage in the short term, they may cause malfunctions and fire risks in the long term. As Powerlineer, we guide our customers on correct product selection and quality control.
1️⃣ TSE and CE Certificated Product Selection
When purchasing electrical materials, pay attention to TSE (Turkish Standards Institute) and CE (European Conformity) documents. These documents show that the product has passed safety tests and is produced in accordance with international standards.
2️⃣ Cable Quality and Section Selection
Cables are the most important component of electrical installations. Wrong cross-section selection may lead to overheating and fire risk. When choosing cable:
- The device to be used must have an amperage rating appropriate to its power,
- Cable insulation must be PVC or silicone,
- Copper conductor should be preferred (aluminum is low efficiency).
Tip: “2.5 mm²” cross-section cables are generally suitable for socket circuits, “1.5 mm²” cross-section cables are suitable for lighting circuits.
3️⃣ Socket and Switch Quality
The most contacted components in daily use are sockets and switches. Poor quality products can cause loose connections, arcing and overheating.
- Prefer models that can carry high current (over 16A),
- Use child-proof sockets,
- Choose heat-resistant ABS plastic instead of metal frame.
4️⃣ Fuse and Residual Current Relay Selection
These are the elements that directly affect electrical safety. Cheap, uncertified fuses cause safety risks.
- MCB: Protects against short circuit and overcurrent.
- RCD: It breaks the circuit when it detects leakage current.
- RCBO: Combines both features.
5️⃣ Panel and Terminal Quality
The electrical panel must be tidy and durable. Low-quality panel materials loosen over time and connection points become hot.
- Choose a modular system with DIN rail connection,
- Use copper clamping lugs on the connection terminals,
- Keep the cables inside the panel organized by labeling them.
6️⃣ Lighting Products
Low quality products in LED lighting cause flickering, premature failure and energy waste. Choose reliable brands, pay attention to color temperature and lumen values.
- 2700K – 3000K: Warm white (indoor)
- 4000K: Natural white (office and commercial areas)
- 6000K: Cool white (workshop, warehouse, outdoor)
