5 Ways to Solve Simple Electrical Problems at Home

Powerlineer — Fast fault detection and professional maintenance in Serdivan/Sakarya

1) Blown Fuse (MCB) — Quick Check

  • Find which fuse is blown first (if there is no label, test the circuits one by one).
  • Unplug high-power devices connected to that line (kettle, iron, air conditioner).
  • Close the fuse completely and remove it again. If it beats again, leave the same line blank and call a specialist
  • Tip: If it keeps blowing, it may be overload or loose connection; The fuse amperage may have been selected insufficiently.

    2) Residual Current Relay (RCD) Tripped — Safe Sequencing

  • Turn all fuses OFF; Remove the RCD.
  • Turn on the fuses one by one. Whichever fuse the RCD blows, there is a leak in that line.
  • Unplug the devices on that line; Look for signs of wetness and burns on sockets/plugs.
  • Tip: Damp bathroom/water heater circuits are a common cause. If the problem persists, measurement is required.

    3) Socket Not Working - Simple Test

  • Try the same device in another outlet (to rule out device malfunction).
  • Do not use if there is looseness or burning smell in the socket
  • The socket group is usually connected to a fuse; o check the fuse.
  • Tip: Extension cord/multiplexer failures are very common; Try a direct wall outlet.

    4) Lamp Blinks or Flashes Frequently

    • Turn off and clear the bulb socket; Tighten the bulb fully.
    • Use appropriate wattage/compatible type bulb (LED compatible with dimmer).
    • If the tremor continues, the neutral/sense connection may be loose → an expert should look at it.

    5) Switch/Button Not Working

    • Turn off the switch; Check the switch cover for signs of breakage/heating.
    • Check the fuse in the same circuit; If the problem persists, switch/socket replacement may be required.

    Quick Security Checklist

    • Do not touch the plug/socket with wet hands.
    • Do not use extension cords as a permanent solution.
    • If there is any looseness/heating in the sockets and switches, turn off the circuit.
    • Have a grounding and RCD test performed at least once a year.

Useful Simple Equipment to Have at Home

    • Control pen or socket tester
    • Replacement fuse/automatic fuse information (amperage)
    • Insulated gloves and flashlight
